What is a passive residence?

Passive residence is granted to people wishing to settle in the Principality of Andorra without working there. This type of not-for-profit residence is the best option for people with passive income (pension, retirement, bank interest, etc.) or who wish to invest in property or finance.

Unlike active residence, which requires 183 days‘ presence in Andorra, passive residence requires only 90 days’ presence per year.

Our Gestoria la Peguera business centre can provide you with legal, tax and legal advice in France or Andorra. Each project is unique, and we are committed to providing you with the solution best suited to your needs, in compliance with the legal provisions in force. FAQ

We will use your feedback to respond to your questions and expectations.

Why choose a passive residence in Andorra?

If you have passive income and would like to invest in Andorra, passive residency is the right option for you. Passive residence does not give you the right to work in Andorra or to carry out any economic activity there.

What are the limits of passive residences?

First of all, not everyone can afford a passive residence. A property investment of €600,000 and a deposit are the first obstacles to this type of residence.

What’s more, passive residences do not give you the right to carry on a gainful activity in the country. It is therefore not possible to open an asset management company and then develop your investments there.

Finally, passive residency does not give you the right to benefit from Andorran social security. Residents must subscribe to a private health insurance scheme. These organisations are generally more expensive.

Does passive insurance allow me to domicile sources of income other than my pensions?

No, this is not possible. Not everyone with (for example) income from one or more foreign companies can domicile this income in Andorra. Passivity is very limited in terms of investment and tax optimisation.
